Buildings in the mining industry are sometimes very simple and sometimes very complex but are almost always very remote. The majority of mining buildings are constructed out of pre-engineered steel due to its affordability and ability to clear large spans without the need for interior columns. Incorporating the loads of process equipment, cable trays, interior floor steel, high collateral loads and extremely high snow loads are all typical requirements. For corrosive environments, epoxy coated or galvanized steel is used to provide a durable protection for structural steel components.
Past Colony Mining Projects
The way that Colony can add the most value to a building project is to get involved as early as possible in a Design-Assist partnership. We assign a preconstruction manager during the design phase to attend all design meetings with the owner and consultants in order to provide input on constructability, costs, and schedule. In order to build a fully transparent partnership, we estimate the construction in an open-book fashion showing all costs and our associated fee (similar to a Construction Management deal). We then tender all scopes to sub-trades, make final sub/supplier selections together and lock into a fixed price to deliver the construction as the prime contractor.
The Colony Way
We estimate the project transparently showing all costs and our fee. This allows us to work together as allies to tender all designs and trades and value engineer the project to meet your budget prior to proceeding. Then we lock into a fixed-price contract to build it for you.
Having the builder hire and manage the architect and all design consultants produces a much more efficient and cost-effective design.
